The village of Gunde is ‘that way’ according to a Chapsinja resident who emphasised the point by waving his hand casually to at least four points of the compass. A three hour round trip by foot for the voluntary health teachers, but only thirty minute by 4×4 allowed a planned quiet courtesy visit into this back water to assess their impact to date.
Half the entire village turned out (the other half attending a funeral) and so did four leading herdsmen and the area chief to greet us in song, dance, drama and lengthy speeches proclaiming their appreciation and the impact on the village to date.
