Jomo Kenyatta airport continues to be a source of amusement, horror, surprise and frustration, usually at the same time. The 40 year old curved mausoleum type structure has never served Nairobi well and has been in constant state of repair and remodelling since inception, often around and over head of its many transit passengers. A recent major fire, attended by water bereft fire trucks, had accelerated the replacement terminal although in keeping with the eccentric predecessor, has never been quite finished. A rare working air bridge attached itself to our fine Etihad airbus promised so much. Still attached to the old terminal it served no purpose except to deposit the hopeful down an ageing metal stair case and into the paths of several manoeuvring aircraft.
Normality would have been disappointing.
Kibera beckons.
