In the villages improvisation is the key. Catch an oversized Malawi grasshopper, pull it’s legs off and chuck it back in the air and you have a none-escape helicopter that provides a good five minutes of fun and hilarity without the need for batteries.
Under the right conditions and with a little care, pigs can mature in just nine months and once at market, can make a reasonable return. Getting them to pig-market on the trotter just burns off too many valuable calories and consequential Kwacha. Strapped to a wooden rack and loaded on to the back of a taxi-cycle proves it is just possible to peddle 50 kilos of pig off-road. The consequential volume of the protesting pig has yet to be overcome.
